Michelle van Heerden
Michelle van Heerden is a Chartered Accountant CA(SA), holds a Masters in South African
and International Taxation and is currently enrolled for a PhD in Taxation at the University
of Johannesburg. She obtained her B. Com Accounting (cum laude).
Michelle has been lecturing Taxation to CTA students (Post Graduate in Accounting
(PGDA)) for more than 20 years in the Department of Accountancy at the University of
Johannesburg. She is also the subject head of Taxation in the Department, a position she
has filled for more than 15 years. Michelle has a passion for simplification in tax education.
Michelle has also been involved with the Gauteng Board Course since 2002 and presents
the annual tax update on the APT since 2015. She was involved in the development of the
original Competency Framework for SAICA and is currently also involved in developing the
CA of the Future Competency Framework for SAICA from a tax technical perspective.
Muneer Hassan
Muneer Hassan is a Chartered Accountant CA(SA), CTA (Chartered Tax Advisor) and holds a
PhD in Taxation.
Muneer is the Deputy Head of Department and Senior Lecturer at the University of
Johannesburg. Muneer lectures Taxation to CTA students (Post Graduate in Accounting
(PGDA)). He joined the University of Johannesburg during 2015 and previously lectured
Taxation on the Honours programme with specialisation in Tax. He is the academic
member on the SAICA National Tax Committee and a member of the SAIT External
Integrated Summative Assessment Committee (EISA).
He served articles at PwC and previously held positions of tax technical advisor at SARS,
and senior executive: tax legislation and practitioners at SAICA. He previously served as a
member of SAICA’s Examinations Committee.
